Thirty members of a security guard known as Yan Sakai are feared dead in a shootout near the Gidan Dan Inna community in Auki district, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The Daily Trust reported that gunfire erupted on Monday, May 30, after criminals stormed Gidan Inna village and other neighboring communities and looted cattle. They allegedly shot and killed other villagers and took away cattle.
A resident identified as Umar Kadowa said;
“Shortly thereafter, local security chiefs known as Yan sakai from at least 10 neighboring communities began mobilizing their members to chase and dismantle cattle stolen from armed robbers.
“In less than half an hour, the guards rallied around the thieves and chased the motorcycles. However, when the armed robbers saw that they were being chased, they split up into two groups, one group being asked to look after the animals that had been stolen from the forest.
“One group then ambushed and ambushed the oncoming guards. They killed more than 30 people there, mostly because armed criminals outnumbered security guards
“I saw security guards riding a large motorcycle toward the village of Gidan Dan Inna on my way to my farm. I felt miserable and had to return home immediately.
“The remains of slain security guards from more than 10 communities have been retrieved for burial in their villages. Fear has gripped civilians as armed men may return to attack again. ”
