Adam had called for a 25-member National Working Committee meeting at party headquarters in Abuja ahead of the first presidential meeting on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Adam informed the NWC that Lawan was the anointed of the group, a move that was not accepted by all members.

It was reported that the national chairman emphasized that Lawan’s appointment came after due consultation with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (back).

After the meeting, Adam quickly jumped into his car and pulled over the picture.

APC stance on Monday threatened South hopes to produce the next president as a northern man, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, on May 28 won a Peoples Democratic Party presidential ticket after defeating southern aspirants including Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

But the northern APC governors, in their meeting on Saturday night, raised South hopes as they insisted that the party’s presidential election should take place in the southern part of the country.

Adam’s plot to force Lawan on Monday was met with strong opposition from some NWC members, northern rulers and others seeking the presidency.

Shortly after the NWC meeting, about seven members led by APC National Planning Secretary Suleman Argungu told reporters at the party’s secretary general’s office that Lawan was not the party’s nominee.
