A Member of the House of Representatives from the state of Iseyin / Itesiwaju / Kajola / Iwajowa, Oyo State, Shina Peller, has described online media reports that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress to another political party as “rumors”.
The lawyer said in a statement released on Sunday by his news correspondent, Kola Popoola.
Peller, who lost the Oyo North Senatorial ticket for the APC to Senator Fatai Buhari, said that until he personally announced his departure from the APC through his verified social media platforms, any report of the rebellion was just speculation, and should be considered.
His visit to New Nigeria People’s Party official Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan last week sparked speculation that he had abandoned the APC but denied the allegations.
He said, “My attention has been drawn to the baseless report that I went from the All Progressives Congress to the New Nigeria People’s Party. Also, while some think that I am now a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, others conclude that I now belong to the Accord Party. This is nothing but rumors and should be considered one thing as I am still a member of the APC until I announce otherwise with my verified contact handles.
“Just because I respect Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan’s invitation to his house does not mean I have defected from the NNPP. Alhaji Olopoeyan is a family friend, and the fact that we are different political parties does not mean that I should start playing political politics with him. I am not that type of person and I will not turn to one for political reasons.
“It will be recalled that about a week ago, one of our party officials in Oyo State, also stated that I had been secretly nominated by the Peoples Democratic Party to run for election to the Oyo Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde in the 2023 Oyo State gubernatorial race. This is not true either, and Bayo Lawal’s recent announcement as successor to Governor Makinde has made the allegations unfounded.
“The fact that I commend Governor Makinde for a project that benefits the people I have voted for should not lead anyone to conclude that I am now a member of the PDP. Also, Engr. Seyi Makinde is not only the ruler of the PDP members, but he is the ruler of everyone in Oyo State including me. I did not defect from the APC to any political party, and even if I did, that would be the Oke Ogun people in Oyo State. “
