The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has allegedly planned to assassinate him and some of his aides.
According to a statement signed by his Media Special Adviser, Ikenna Onuoha, the initiative was initiated because the PDP National Working Committee complied with the recommendations of a committee set up to investigate the basis of the May 26 meeting in Ahiazu Mbaise Province, Imo State.
He said some people who were upset with the withdrawal and postponement of the new primary school, threatened to burn him down and kill him with a voice note.
The statement read in part, “We have found a conspiracy under the guise of desperate politicians in Imo State to assassinate the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, and his closest aides.
“In a statement, the group, which supports and represents one of the top politicians and their assassination team, vowed to shut down the Imo State Secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission, destroy other prominent civil society groups and crack down on anyone connected with Senator Anyanwu’s political camp. Voice notes (albeit incomplete) will be available if needed.
“Although security forces have been notified of the plot to assassinate the PDP National Secretary and his close aides, we now inform the traditional rulers of Imo state, religious leaders, and the public about the incident.”
He alleges that some desperate politicians in the province have resorted to various tactics, including accusations and threats, to oust him since taking office as National PDP Secretary.
Imo’s chief communications officer, CSP Michael Abatam, was contacted and said police had not received a statement or letter of complaint.
