The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old ex-convict, Umar Salisu, for burglary and theft
Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement on Thursday, July 7, said 32 stolen mobile phones were recovered from the suspect.
“On 22/06/2022 at about 0800hrs, a report was received from a resident of Tudun Murtala Quarters, Nassarawa LGA Kano State, that, on 21/06/2022, he left his shop where he used to repair and sell a cellphone.
Phones, which When he went to the store the next morning, he found that unknown individuals had broken into his shop door and stole more than 40 cellphones of his customers, “read the statement.
On receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi raised and instructed a team of Detectives led by SP Abubakar Abdulmalik, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Zango Division to trace and arrest the perpetrator(s).
The team immediately swung into action for the burglary case
Ongoing efforts along with intelligence-led investigations led to the arrest of the main suspect, Umar Salisu, ‘m’, 24, of Tudun Murtala Quarters Kano.
The 32 stolen cellphones were found in his possession. Two other suspects were arrested for buying thirteen (13) cellphones from the suspect, in an attempt to recover them.
“In the investigation, the suspect admitted to going to the shop alone on 22/06/2022 at 0200hrs, used an iron, broke down the door and stole several cellphones from his bag.
He also admitted that he had been arrested two years ago for stealing 10 cellphones, was charged in court and sentenced to two years in a correctional facility without parole, where he worked at the time and was later released.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge in the same court because the magistrate had warned him.
“A thorough investigation is ongoing, and the commissioner of police has ordered the main suspect to be charged in a previous court trial for prosecution.”
The CP commended the effort of the Police Officers that participated in the investigation and further reiterates that criminals will have no hiding place in Kano State.
