Godday Simon Aprebo, 9, who was chained to a pole along Agboli Street in the Okutukutu neighborhood of Yenagoa Local Government Area of the State after being accused of being a wizard using voodoo against his family, has been rescued by members of the Ekeki Divisional Command of the Bayelsa State Police Command.
According to information obtained by AUNTY AMEBO BLOG, Peremoboere Botu, a 38-year-old stepmother, was detained by the police after reportedly chaining a young kid and employing voodoo to harm or kill his father.
AUNTY AMEBO BLOG also learned that the advocacy organizations FOMWAN, led by Hajia Maryam Abeki, and Starrz Safety Initiative, led by Executive Director Mary Bekeowei Accrah, swiftly alerted the Bayelsa State Gender Response Initiative Team (GRIT) and reported the boy’s suffering to the police.
“My step mother and biological father tied me so that I won’t go away and that I am a wizard,” the victim claimed of her treatment.
They assert that I am the one who has caused my father’s agony and intends to have him killed. I was told I had to confess.
Simon Afrebo and a Prophet, the alleged biological fathers, are natives of the Ogbia Local Government region and have since fled.
We are once again faced with another dismal and embarrassing example of domestic violence, said Dise Ogbise Esq.,
State Chairman of the gender Response initiative Team (GRIT), who confirmed the occurrence.
No one who engages in violence against children will escape punishment, and this case won’t be an exception, we’ll reiterate that again and again.
The prosperous government of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri is on track to establish a state devoid of violence and even child abuse.
We will also take steps to offer psychosocial support to the child,” she said, urging the Bayelsa State Police command to swiftly punish those responsible after conducting a full investigation into the incident.
Speaking in opposition to the development, Mary Bekeowei Accrah, the executive director of the Starrz Safety Initiative, stated that “this kind of treatment from a father and a step mother is totally wrong as children are the future of tomorrow and I equally think the ignorance of parents towards issues of witchcraft and the like is too rampant.” I implore all major players to act quickly.
Confirming the development, the spokesman of the State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the development and said a discreet investigation is ongoing.
