Lagos provincial police officers on Thursday, June 16, rescued a 53-year-old woman who was nearly killed by a mob after allegedly touching a baby who allegedly went missing afterwards.
State police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin revealed this on his Twitter page, saying the woman had been stripped naked and attacked by a mob. He said police arrived on time and were able to rescue the woman. He said no one had openly complained that their child was missing.
Urging Nigerians to abandon labor justice, Hundeyin wrote;
” We must join hands to prevent forest justice. At 1810hrs today (Thursday), people stripped a 53-year-old woman (name withheld), and began stoning her on the way to kill her. This happened in Alasalatu, Mushin.
Allegations that she touched the child then disappeared.
Police arrived on time to rescue him. The Lynch crowd dispersed with tear gas. The allegations have not been substantiated.
No parent / caregiver has come forward to complain about a missing child in the area today. He is currently in the station. Her husband is touched.
The investigation is ongoing. Forest justice is not the way to go. Say NO to jungle justice !!! ”thank
